Glam For The Corporate Mum

In certain circles, women believe that age is just a number, while others believe you are the age you feel. In yet another circle, corporate mum’s feel that age matters, especially when it comes to their ability to fit in and succeed in the corporate world. Not only does it matter, but in addition, dressing accordingly is equally important, if not more. However, it's still possible to be a corporate mum filled with glamor and style that gives you a timeless look, no matter how old you are.

The key is to avoid bringing the wrong kind of attention to yourself, due to your outfit choices, but rather be seen as a force to be reckoned with. You want to show others you know how to be the best, independent of being a woman. However, you can still use fashion in your favor and wow them with your own personal style and ‘brickhouseness’

Overall, you want your image to be professional, yet fashionable and stylish, while still being appropriate to your position and culture of your company.

Usually, women tend to be more critical than men regarding how they look. However, we as women don't want our outer appearance to question our ability to be the best at our grind. Perfection is a process and takes time, and that can present itself as a problem when it comes to getting to work on time. Between your husband and your kids demanding your time, the less time you need to get ready in the morning, the better.

So, here are a few tips to give you that corporate woman glam look every single day:

* Power-House Power-Suit:

Every corporate mum needs that one perfect power suit that makes you look and feel like a million bucks. That suit is the one you pull out when you have a meeting of the minds, or when going on a working lunch date or you just need that extra boost to get you through the day. The power suit can be a skirt or pant suit in any color, but if you can only afford one, make it black. Accessorizing the suit takes your appearance up several notches and creates an atmosphere of total and complete confidence, while giving you your signature power house look.

* A black dress is a must-have:

A black dress goes well with any other colors and patterns you might decide to mix it with. One black dress can give you a myriad of opportunities to mix and match, especially when you add accessories. A black dress that suits your body type is the perfect go to outfit when nothing else is working. Pair it with a well-tailored jacket and…watch out world!

* Iron-free, crease free clothes:

Besides being boring, ironing takes up your time. If you’re lucky, you may need to iron both your husband and kids clothes too. Of course, you can always have your clothes dry cleaned, but that can become expensive very quickly. Luckily, there is a whole industry that caters to that exact need. You can find very practical, stylish and even timeless pieces. So, the next time you're in the market for some new clothes, consider the iron-free option. The joy of an iron-free world!

* The right shoes:

You’ve heard it said many times before that shoes make the outfit…well it does! You don't need to have high-priced, or very high-heeled shoes (especially if you will be in them all day) but you need to make sure they are comfortable. Comfort is the name of the game. Also, if you can’t afford a closet full of shoes in every color (aaaah…my sweet spot!), it’s important to have basics in black, nude and brown. This will allow you to still have enough to complement each of your outfits, while still looking chic and stylish. Shoes for most women can be an addiction (yeah, I’m telling on myself) however, there's no need to exaggerate or go into debt for it.

* Accessories:

Accessories are an important part of any corporate mum’s wardrobe who wants to have glam. They can make an outfit standout, without being overbearing. Scarfs of all colors and fabrics are an awesome way to add color and flair. You can also combine bracelets, necklaces, belts and earrings to completely set your outfit apart from the rest.

* Bet on solids:

Solids are much easier to mix and match and a must have staple in every woman’s closet. Adding accessories and shoes to the outfit gives it your signature knock-out look. Solids on solids, solids on patterns, same color solids or solids on abstracts are one of the many ways they can be worn, which gives many options to mix and match.

Bottom line, the corporate glam mum has many, many options to achieve that ‘look-out-world, don’t mess with me, I know what I’m doing’ look. Staples and classics are a must, and investing in one or two timeless pieces will help keep your wardrobe fresh and exciting. The changing seasons give us opportunities to layer, add sweaters. pants etc., giving us an endless revolving door of selections. Never estimate the power of mums.  You’re amazing and there’s no limit to what you can achieve (especially through fashion), so reach for all you can and turn it out!
